Blind Wine & Cheese Tasting at the Blue Gator

Details:
In response to our 'sold out' status in 2003 we bring back this fun event! Partnered with the Dairy Farmers of Canada this event is for those who want to test their wine and cheese palates. We offer a fun blind tasting of Okanagan wines and fine cheeses followed by dancing to great blues at the Blue Gator. Come and learn to identify your favourite varietals and cheeses and vote to determine whether or not you can recognize the differences between wines and cheeses. "See you later at the Gator"
 


Seminar: Are You a Good Taster?

Location: The Art Ark Gallery, #135-1295 Cannery Lane, Kelowna
Time: 4:30 PM - 6:00 PM
Description: What makes someone a good wine taster? How well do you know the wine or varietal in question you are tasting? What if you taste a wine and say, "This could be better. It could be richer, denser, fuller, fresher, more detailed. You need to know how to taste. This fun and educational tasting will help you to answer these questions while exploring the basic fundamentals in recognizing balance, length, mid-palate concentration, finish and aftertaste.


Kelowna Consumer Tasting

Description: A traditional event for the opening weekend of the Fall Festival. Popular with those who are new to the art of wine tasting. Sample great Okanagan Wines and enjoy fine art in a comfortable setting with more than 25 wineries in attendance.


Seminar: How do you Really Taste Wine?
Date: Saturday, October 2, 2004

Description: The educational goal of a component tasting is to establish where each particular taste is sensed in the mouth for recognition and precise identification. Why palate education? To show participants that they can taste and evaluate wines thereby increasing their comfort and experimentation with wine.This seminar will explore wine imbalances such as VA (volatile acidity), oxidization, acesence and cork taint, just to name a few. The ability to taste, discern primary flavor attributes and accurately discuss them is a skill essential to the enjoyment of fine wine.



Seminar: Wine - From The Ground Up
Date: Saturday, October 2, 2004
Location: Pacific Agri-Food Research Centre, 4200 Hwy 97, Summerland
Time: 2:30pm - 4:30pm
Description: The Okanagan Wine Festivals is pleased to present an educational afternoon hosted by Rod and Marjorie King from Naramata. You will be introduced to 15-20 wines from the Valley. Learn how grapes are grown so that they are at their peak before being turned into some of the world's best wine. The seminar provides the most important lesson for all - drinking wine is not stuffy, it's fun and part of our culture in the Okanagan. A highlight of this seminar is the opportunity to learn how these wines work with fine cheeses provided by the Dairy Farmers of Canada.


Seminar: What the Nose Knows, brought to you by the BC Wine Institute
Date: Sunday, October 3, 2004
Location: Pacific Agri-Food Research Centre, 4200 Hwy 97, Summerland
Time: 2:00pm - 4:30pm
Description: Your eyes may fool you, your mouth may deceive you, but your nose will always search out the truth! Sponsored by the British Columbia Wine Institute, join noted wine educators Marjorie King and Kimberly Dever as they lead you by the nose through a sensory experience of learning to identify defects in wine. No longer will you accept a bottle of wine in a restaurant that has been corked! Your education will kick off with sparkling wine and an overview of the importance of the VQA quality assurance standards for BC wines and then proceeds to an education on how to identify the main defects found in wines. Of course your knowledge will be tested, and you get to be the judge to see if your nose really knows!
